eXtend Homeschool Tutorial

8th Grade Pre-Algebra - $375 per year + $15 supply/copy fee

Prerequisite: Successful completion of 7th grade math and/or placement test. This class is open to 8th and 9th grade students. 9th grade students taking this class may list this class on their transcript as “Introductory Algebra.”

**This class has an optional weekly study group that meets virtually - the day and time is TBD. The monthly fee (paid September through April) is $20 and students may opt in and out as the need arises.

The Saxon Algebra 1/2 (Pre-Algebra) curriculum is designed to build a strong foundation for future success in math and utilizes a spiral method so students continually review concepts learned. In this class, all 123 lessons of the curriculum are covered, with concepts that include fractions, decimals, mixed number operations, order of operations and signed numbers, scientific notation, exponents and radicals, simplifying algebraic expressions, writing and solving algebraic equations, fraction/decimal/percent word problems, ratios, geometry fundamentals and graphing linear equations.

Student Expectations: Because this is an incremental study requiring “time in the material,” students must be prepared to complete between four and five homework lessons each week and, beginning week two, will also take an at-home test every week. Tutor will provide weekly tests - DO NOT purchase Saxon test packet for this course.

Due to the rigor of this class, if your student is new to Saxon, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that your student participate in the Pre-Algebra prep classes offered over the summer. Information regarding the summer prep class will be available on our website in the Spring.
