eXtend Homeschool Tutorial

8th Grade Pre-Algebra - $425 per year + $15 supply/copy fee

Prerequisite: Successful completion of 8th grade math and/or placement test. 

This class has an OPTIONAL study group that meets virtually every Tuesday and Thursday during the year from September through May. The time is TBD, but will likely happen from 4pm - 5pm via Zoom.

The Saxon Algebra 1 curriculum further builds on concepts learned in Pre-Algebra to develop a strong foundation and prepare students for future success in upper level math and utilizes a spiral method, so students continually review concepts learned. In this class, all 120 lessons of the curriculum are covered in class, with concepts that include evaluating algebraic expressions involving signed numbers, roots and exponents; equations involving inequalities and absolute values; algebraic word problems; working with polynomials and rational expressions; factoring; graphing linear equations and inequalities; parent functions and transformations; and interwoven intermediate geometry. This course is structured and paced to prepare students for Algebra 2 and further upper level mathematics.

Student Expectations: Because this is an incremental study requiring “time in the material,” students must be prepared to complete between four and five homework lessons each week and, beginning week two, and will also take an at-home test every week. Tutor will provide weekly tests - DO NOT purchase Saxon test packet for this course.

Due to the rigor of this class, if your student is new to Saxon, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that your student participate in the Algebra 1 prep classes offered over the summer and/or the study group during the academic year. Information regarding the summer prep class will be available on the website in the Spring.
