High School Grammar and Composition - $450 + $25 supply fee

Prerequisites: Students must have successfully completed an 8th grade ELA course. Additionally, students should be comfortable completing weekly 5 paragraph essays.

Designed to be a foundational High School English course with ninth and tenth graders in mind, this course might also be helpful for upperclassmen who need to strengthen their Grammar and Composition skills. In this course, students will learn to master the patterns and principles of various forms of written communication. In grammar, students will review parts of speech, phrases and clauses, while learning the rules governing sentence structure. In composition, we will focus on the clear expression of thought through these traits of good writing: ideas, organization, voice, sentence fluency, word choice, and conventions. Students will end the school year with a research paper critically analyzing a current issue affecting teens.

Writing is a journey, not a destination. My goal is to help students improve their writing skills and build confidence.

Parent-Teacher Expectations: Parents are expected to serve as editors to all student written work.
